Online Dating Safety Notice

Last updated: October 23, 2026

THE TRANSFER PORTAL DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS OF ITS MEMBERS.

Members can verify their photos with a pose selfie that a person on our team reviews, and verified profiles carry a badge. Verification is optional and confirms only that a face matches the photos. It is not a background check and does not tell you who someone is.

Online Dating Safety Awareness

  • Getting to know someone through an online dating service carries risk. Take safety precautions with everyone you meet.
  • People can put false information in a dating profile, including their name, age, photos, job and location.
  • Keep identifying details out of your profile and early messages: your last name, home address, workplace, Social Security number and financial details.
  • Stop talking to anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information.
  • Before meeting in person, tell a family member or friend where you are going, who you are meeting and when you expect to be back.
  • Arrange your own transportation to and from a date, and meet in a busy public place.
  • Block and report anyone whose behavior is suspicious, offensive, harassing, threatening or fraudulent, and anyone who asks you for money or tries to sell you something.

Protecting Yourself from Sexual Assault and Dating Violence

  • Sexual conduct without consent is a crime and can be prosecuted. Consent can be withdrawn at any time, and a person who is incapacitated by alcohol or drugs cannot give it.
  • If you experience sexual violence or intimate partner violence, report it to us and to law enforcement. Call 911 if you are in danger.
  • If this happens to you, it is not your fault. You can get confidential support from the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-7233 (text START to 88788) and the RAINN National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-4673, or from local services.
  • Reporting criminal activity can protect other people, and it may be what lets us act against the person responsible.

Protecting Yourself from Financial Crimes

  • Never send money to someone you met on The Transfer Portal, by wire transfer, gift card, cryptocurrency, payment app or any other way, even if they describe an emergency.
  • Never share personal financial information: bank or card numbers, account logins, your Social Security number, or photos of your ID.
  • Romance scammers often move fast with declarations of love, avoid video calls, say they live or work overseas, push you to move the conversation off the app, and then describe a crisis that money would solve.
  • If you lost money, report it to us, to your bank, to the Federal Trade Commission at reportfraud.ftc.gov and to the FBI at ic3.gov.

How to report

In the app, open the person's profile or your conversation and tap Report. You can also block them from the same menu. To report sexual or intimate partner violence, a financial crime or other misconduct by email, write to safety@thetransferportalapp.com. A person on our team reviews reports. We are not an emergency service: if you are in danger, call 911.
