This policy explains what we prohibit, what we check and what we don't, how we act on reports, and the safety measures we take. It applies to every member. For practical advice, read our online dating safety notice.
Prohibited content and conduct
You may not use The Transfer Portal to do or attempt any of the following:
- Any act, threat or attempt of homicide, sexual assault or other unlawful sexual behavior, assault, kidnapping, stalking, harassment, drugging someone without their knowledge, robbery, theft, or any other conduct that threatens public safety or another person's safety.
- Asking members for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, financial information or investments, or any other scam or fraud.
- Pretending to be someone else, or using a false identity or another person's photos.
- Hate speech, threats, bullying, or sexual content sent without consent.
- Any content involving minors in a sexual way, or any use of the service by anyone under 18.
- Spam, advertising, or selling products or services.
Our Community Guidelines and Terms of Service describe these rules in more detail.
Criminal background screening
THE TRANSFER PORTAL DOES NOT CONDUCT CRIMINAL BACKGROUND SCREENINGS OF ITS MEMBERS.
Because we do not screen, we cannot exclude members based on criminal convictions we don't know about. Our Terms prohibit registered sex offenders from using the service, and we remove any member we learn is one, along with anyone convicted of a violent or sexual crime that we learn about.
Identity and age verification
- Every member gives their date of birth at signup. The app will not accept a date of birth under 18, and our servers automatically ban and sign out any account whose date of birth shows the member is under 18. We do not check that date against an ID unless the member chooses ID verification.
- During signup you can take a pose selfie. A person on our team compares it with your profile photos before a verified badge appears. This step is optional, so not every member is verified. Look for the badge.
- Members may also choose to verify a government ID. A person on our team reviews it. Verification confirms a face and an ID match the profile. It is not a background check.
Suspensions and bans after reports
- A person on our team reviews reports. Depending on what we find, we may dismiss it, warn the member, remove content, suspend the account for 7 days, or ban the account permanently.
- When several different members report the same account (two for harassment, threats, scams or underage use; three for anything else), we hide that account automatically until a person reviews it.
- We ban permanently for scams or fraud, threats or violence, sexual misconduct, any involvement of minors, and repeated or serious violations of our rules.
- Some restrictions happen automatically before human review: accounts with a date of birth under 18, and content matching known child sexual abuse material, which we also report to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Appeals
A suspended or banned member can appeal from the notice screen in the app. A person on our team reviews the appeal and tells the member the result. We do not reinstate accounts banned for child sexual abuse material.
Notifying other members
We do not tell other members when we receive a report about someone they have talked to. When we ban an account, it is hidden from discovery and can no longer send messages. When we ban an account because we judge it a risk to try to take money from members through fraud, we email everyone who received a message from it, within 24 hours, unless law enforcement asks us to wait. The email names the account by first name and age, gives the time of the last message, says the account may have used a false identity or tried to defraud members, reminds you never to send money or financial information, and links to safety tips and our support team.
How to report
In the app, open a profile or conversation and tap Report, choose a reason, and add any details. You can block the person from the same menu. You can also email safety@thetransferportalapp.com. Report anything that breaks the rules above, especially threats, violence, sexual misconduct, requests for money and anyone who may be under 18. If you are in danger, call 911 first.
Please report honestly. Do not file false reports, or report someone for malicious, biased or other illegitimate reasons. Doing so breaks this policy and can lead to action against your own account.
Consent
Engaging in sexual conduct with another person without their consent violates this policy, is against the law, and may result in criminal or civil liability.
